BMG and FENNER celebrate together (Jan 2009)

“Fenner power transmission products, which have become synonymous with quality and reliability in power transmission globally, were launched in South Africa in 1928 through Reunert & Lenz, leading engineering suppliers at the time,” says Keith van Wyk, divisional director of BMG – Bearing Man Group. “It’s a great tribute that Fenner has been in this country longer than any other power transmission brand.

“Another important factor for BMG in marketing Fenner products is the ‘Fenner Quality Assurance Initiative’, which is a world wide commitment to quality. This is a guarantee to customers, wherever they are located, that the quality of Fenner products always meets exacting, agreed and internationally recognised industry standards.”

Valuable information from a customer research programme has been central in planning the way forward for BMG to play an increasingly important role in the South African industrial economy.

A key growth area is the optimisation of energy consumption and efficiency in diverse industries. BMG is committed is to becoming an integral part of the productivity and operations of each customer’s business. By providing engineering solutions and technical services that optimise productivity, BMG enhances its product and service offering to make a difference to the efficiencies of every plant.

BMG’s new logo has three arcs which represent technical expertise, quality components and excellent service. This icon is supported by a slogan ‘part of the process’ which emphasises the critical role BMG plays in the success of each customer’s operation.

The Bearing Man Group’s pledge to service excellence is achieved by constantly assessing market requirements and by expanding the product range and branch network to meet demand. The Group has concluded a number of acquisitions and secured the exclusive supply, service and distribution agreements with some of the world’s most respected manufacturers of leading engineering components.

THE FENNER PORTFOLIO
The Fenner range - which consists of chain, vee and wedge belts, tyre and grid couplings, timing belts, sprockets and pulleys, as well as electric motors and shaft mounted speed reducers - enables BMG to work with all sectors of industry. BMG also services the industrial and mining replacement and re-sale markets and is a supplier to original equipment manufacturers.

BMG has extended its range of Fenner Motoline electric motors to include new high efficiency motors that meet stringent European and local requirements, including SABS specifications.

These energy efficient EFF1 electric motors, which ensure high efficiency, reduced energy consumption, extended motor life and low operating costs, have passed extensive testing required by local industry.

An important feature of these motors is they are able to significantly reduce electricity consumption. Apart from energy saving – a critical issue facing this country – high efficiency motors have important advantages over standard electric motors. These benefits include longer service life, suitability for voltage variation applications, reduced temperature rise and minimal maintenance requirements.

Because standardisation and spares holding costs are a high priority for most production operations, Fenner has applied a policy of low frequency product changes throughout its range, with design improvements implemented only where these will offer significant customer benefits.
